Welcome to Behind the Veil: Beeswax and Collage!!

Have you ever wanted to try a mixed media exploration that introduces you to the joys of encaustic (painting with wax) in a gentle way? Do you love the look of mysteriously veiled sepia-toned photographs? Are you looking for a fresh new way to combine digital images and photographs to produce intriguing collages? In Behind the Veil: Beeswax and Collage, you’ll get to do all of those things.

HOW THIS CLASS WORKS:

This three-part workshop is based on Lyn's popular eBook called Behind the Veil. When that book was published three years ago, it had pictures, but no instructional videos. This workshop expands on all of the ideas in that original best-selling eBook by adding over two hours of instructional videos as well as a bonus project.

Here's what you'll learn in this workshop

PART ONE

All the photo pages from the original book are included here in Part One. The pages are divided into small segments with brand-new accompanying video lessons that will introduce you to the basics of Encaustic Collage.

You'll begin by learning how to set up your min-studio for wax and collage. It's so much easier (and cheaper) than most people think. There's also a lesson on how to search for non-copyright evocative images on Flickr Commons to use in your Behind the Veil collages.

After reading about the set-up and finding images, you'll start the process lessons. Every lesson in PART ONE has two parts:

  • Several pages from the eBook, which are downloadable and printable and include written directions, hints, safety tips and useful links.
  • A video lesson which demonstrates step-by-step creation of an evocative mixed-media collage enhanced with beeswax.

In each lesson in Part One, you can read the pages from the book and then watch the accompanying video, watch the video fist, or mix it up in any way that works for you.

You can work at your own pace and in your own way.

PART TWO

This section is an in-depth video class, an expansion of the encaustic process, with nine step-by-step instructional videos. You'll revisit the basics as you expand your knowledge of the infinite possibilities of Lyn's Behind the Veil techniques in composition, content, and concept. We will work with tissue and asemic writing, among other things.

You'll work toward creating a gallery-quality encaustic mixed-media work with your own images and designs.

PART THREE - BONUS PROJECT

In this section, you'll create a delightful mixed-media project that combines a fusion of images, paints, and construction. This two-sided four-panel folding screen showcases the possibilities of working with beeswax in mixed-media.

If you loved Lyn's book, Postcards to Myself, you'll see how some of those techniques can be translated into beeswax and panels.
