Tokens and Talismans: Personal Objects of Meaning and Small Devotional Collections
The Third Workshop in the Objects of Devotion Series with Lyn Belisle
We all collect small things that carry stories—a shell from a favorite beach, a weathered key, a scrap of handwritten paper, a feather found on a meaningful day. In this workshop, those treasured fragments become the heart of personal talismans and devotional collections that celebrate memory, hope, gratitude, and connection.
You'll create two versatile projects. The first is a small magnetic collage talisman that can be worn as a pin, displayed in a frame, or attached to a devotional assemblage. The second is a larger fiber-and-found-object talisman that may hang on a wall, rest on a shelf, or be worn as a personal amulet.
Along the way, you'll discover simple rituals for enriching your work with symbolic meaning—incorporating favorite words, poems, significant numbers, natural objects, and cherished keepsakes. You'll also explore composition, texture, layering, and mixed-media techniques using paper, fabric, beads, thread, and found materials.
No special artistic skills are required—only curiosity and a willingness to gather, reflect, and create.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have not only two beautiful handmade objects, but also a deeply personal way to honor the people, places, experiences, and intentions that matter most.
Talismans as Objects of Devotion
Some of my favorite objects are the smallest ones.
A smooth stone picked up on a walk. A rusty key with no lock. A feather. A tiny photograph tucked inside an old book. These humble fragments become markers of our lives, quietly holding memories, hopes, gratitude, and stories that words alone cannot express.
Tokens and Talismans grew from my lifelong fascination with creating Objects of Devotion—not necessarily religious objects, but deeply personal ones. They are reminders of what we value, what protects us, what inspires us, and what we hope never to forget.
In this workshop, we'll gather ordinary materials—paper, fabric, thread, beads, found objects, and small keepsakes—and transform them into meaningful talismans that can be worn, displayed, or given as heartfelt gifts. Along the way, I'll share simple ways to weave symbolism into your work through words, numbers, natural elements, and personal rituals.
This isn't about making perfect art. It's about making something that matters.

About the Curated and Collaged Token Talisman
Create a miniature collage talisman layered with handmade papers, meaningful imagery, texture, and symbolic embellishments. Mounted magnetically within a small frame, it can be displayed as a tiny work of art, then easily removed and worn as a pin or attached to another devotional piece. Add treasured tokens, words, and found objects to create a keepsake rich with personal meaning.
