Tokens and Talismans: Small Objects of Meaning

Some objects are too small to be "practical" and too precious to put away. We keep them close because they remind us of something we hope for, someone we love, or a part of ourselves we don't want to forget.

In Tokens and Talismans, we'll create a collection of small wearable and displayable adornments made from clay fragments, collage papers, beads, thread, and found treasures. Each piece becomes a personal marker—a tiny guardian, a memory keeper, a symbol of gratitude, courage, protection, or joy.

Some of these precious little objects attach to clothing with strong magnets and can be worn on a lapel, scarf, hat, or necklace. When not being worn, they gather together on a magnetic bar or framed panel, creating a changing wall installation of meaningful companions.

Others hang on a wall, on a vintage vase or antique mirror, or around a neck.

There are no rules for what a talisman must represent. Some may honor a loved one. Some may celebrate resilience or curiosity. Some may simply hold a beautiful color, a favorite word, or a fragment of a story.

Like all Objects of Devotion, these pieces are not about perfection or precious materials. They are about connection. They invite us to carry meaning with us—and to surround ourselves with reminders of what matters most.
