The Lotus Book: Unfolding Beauty is an all-level workshop designed to teach you simple book construction and wonderful collage techniques.
Lotus Books have traditionally been designed for revealing secret thoughts through their unfolding pages. Beautiful in themselves as objects, they are also functional as journals.
The Project – making a beautiful mini-journal using gold leaf, papers, stamps, paint and other mixed media to use for personal thoughts or as a special gift.
The Process – create 4.5" square journal covers using decorative papers, Asian rice paper, gold leaf, inks and stamps. Fold the inside papers in origami style and tie with ribbons.
The Goal – achieve a working knowledge of origami folds while enhance your collage skills and learning new materials.

Thanks for joining me in my studio on Teachable. This Lotus Book workshop is a gift to you t help spark your creativity during this very uncertain time.
My hometown is beautiful multi-cultural San Antonio, Texas, where I practice art, design amazing eBooks, run a popular Etsy shop called Earthshards, and teach workshops.
I work in four main media to explore my ideas:
In collage with encaustic and altered papers, celebrating anonymous faces and otherworldly places
In earthenware clay with found objects, creating spiritual and symbolic “neo-santo” assemblage
In fiber, with natural colors, wax, felt, tattered and dyed cheesecloth and digital photo images
In acrylic abstraction, with intuitive, non-referenced explorations of form and veiling
Sharing what I've learned as an artist over the years is one o my great joys in life!
